Adoption Policies
At the rescue we follow strict a adoption policy to ensure that the hamsters in our care to the best possible homes that meet their needs. Below are our adoption policies.
You can read more about our adoption processes on our adoption form.
- We will only ever re-home hamsters to cages that meet the minimum. The RSPCA recommend a minimum of 80 x 50cm, though 70 x 30cm is the minimum we go by.
- Hamsters need a suitable wheel and toys in their cage. For larger hamsters, this includes a 11" wheel.
- We won't re-home hamsters in situations where they will be 'paired' up to others. Syrian and Chinese hamsters must live alone. Dwarf species should also live alone unless already paired with a sibling.
- If living in rented accommodation, written permission from a landlord to own pets must be shown before adoption.
- Potential new owners should be prepared to come and visit the hamster to be able to handle them prior to adopting, and go through any further questions.
- Home checks will be done when applicable.
- An adoption form must be filled in prior to adoption.
- If you ever need to re-home the hamster, you must agree to hand them back to us.
